Learn To Row
Try something new. Get stronger. Find your crew.
You don’t need any rowing experience to get started. Niagara Community Rowing’s Learn to Row Program, developed by Head Coach Pat McNally, is designed to introduce teens to the sport in a fun, supportive environment.
Whether you’re looking for a new sport, want to get fitter, or just want to challenge yourself and meet new people, rowing gives you the chance to do something completely different.
Join us for our Fall Learn to Row Open House on Saturday, September 12th, 2026 from 9AM to 1PM
A Schedule That Works for You
Learn to Row practices this fall are offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 9–11 AM or 11 AM–1 PM starting on Saturday, September 19th, 2026.
The schedule is completely flexible. Come once a week, a few times a week, or join us for every practice—it’s entirely up to you and what fits your schedule. The more you come, the more you’ll learn, improve, and get out of the program.
Why Row?
Rowing is a full-body sport that builds strength, endurance and fitness while being low-impact.
But rowing is about more than getting stronger.
In a boat, everyone has to work together. You’ll learn how to communicate, stay focused, trust your teammates and push through challenges. There are no sidelines — every person in the boat matters.
The confidence, discipline and teamwork you build on the water can carry over into school, other sports and everyday life.
Get stronger. Build confidence. Be part of a team.
What You’ll Learn
With guidance from Head Coach Pat McNally and our coaching team, you’ll learn:
- How to safely handle rowing equipment and boats
- The basics of the rowing stroke — catch, drive, finish and recovery
- How to balance, steer and move a boat efficiently
- How to row individually and as part of a crew
- Skills through games, challenges and on-water activities
Our coaches work with each athlete to help them improve at their own pace, build confidence and have fun on the water.
No experience needed. Just show up and give it a try.
